I paint terracotta pots with acrylic paint, leave them to dry and then attempt to seal them by painting on a varnish. But as soon as the varnish gets on the paint, the paint becomes wet again and runs or smudges. I've tried a couple of different varnishes but the same thing happens. Any suggestions? Do I have to use non-acrylic paints? Or is there an aerosol sealant I could try? Thank you!!!How can I seal my acrylic-painted terracotta pots without the paint smudging?
Spray varnish or sealantHow can I seal my acrylic-painted terracotta pots without the paint smudging?
If you acrylic paint has throughly dry you can use urethane. I use it all the time and it is great. The key is to allow the arcylic to thoroughly dry. So leave it a few days before applying. Varnish acts as a paint thinner...it is great on wood after staining, otherwise stick to one coat of urethane you can get glossy or matt finish. I would avoid spray because it is always messy, just get a small can and a disposible foam brush and hold it up to the light to make sure you get a good coverage.
Aerosol sealants and varnishes work well on such projects. Use a couple of coats, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying another coat. You find both in art supply stores and hardware stores.
unibond adhesive or general upv adhesives. just brush on, the cream coloured glue does dry clear.
