Also I am gonna be building a custom top for lighting, it wont burst the tank from weight of it on the tank ?I want to build a custom acrylic tank its gonna be 8ft x 2 ft x 2 ft is 1/2 inch thick acrylic safe?
Thickness sounds OK, but for weight don't know what you plan to build. More likely, your joints will be the weak spots...acrylic sheet is extremely strong. Something you should maybe research: would vho or halide deteriorate the acrylic (many plastics yellow, harden, decompose under certain lights--usually UV, but check anyway).
