How long will acrylic latex paint last in the original can?

I have some acrylic latex paint that I would like to use to paint a piece of furniture. I believe the paint is about 8 years old.How long will acrylic latex paint last in the original can?
Open it up and check to see if it is lumpy or has a foul odor. If it is incredibly thick, it might have dehydrated over time. you can add about 1 tbsp of water if it seems thick. No more than this though because it will prevent proper adhesion for your furniture. If it looks like a normal consistency, and isn't lumpy you are probably good. If the can was metal and it became rusty, there might be rust shards in the paint. They sell paint strainers for less than a dollar at many places. This will get any of that debris out of your paint.





If you want a professional opinion most paint stores will look at it for you (sometimes even if it isn't theirs). They can also shake it for you for free. Shaking can release the solids that have settled to the bottom a lot easier than stirring. So I recommend this approach.

If you bang the lid down really well and store it inside. Never store paint on or near concreat because it is so porus. If you store properly it should last about seven years
Provided it has never been subjected to frost you are OK
