I have an oval acrylic tub, set into a tile surround. The tub was wet set into concrete (as it should have been) but I need to replace the faucet on the tub. There is not enough room to work with out taking the tub out. I am worried about damaging the bottom of the tub by lifting it out of the concrete. Anyone done this before? Can you remove an acrylic tub from a wet concrete set without damaging the tub?
The tub was set into the concrete floor? I haven't run into that before. When I have installed tubs (following the manufacturer's instructions, I have set them on the finished floor - on top of some wet plaster or concrete to support the floor of the tub. If it was done like that, it will lift right off. Your problem will be with the tub flange going up behind your tile - that is going to be a mess - both for your tub and your tile wall.
I imagine you know this, but on the off chance... Any good tub faucet is infanitly rebuildable - new washers, seats, even valve stems or mixing valves are easy and cheap to replace.
If that won't get the job done, I have often gone in the wall from behind the faucet and replaced it that way. Sheet rock is much easier to replace than tile. I would do nearly anything before I would tear out a good tile surround!
Good luck, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you.Can you remove an acrylic tub from a wet concrete set without damaging the tub?
Tub removal should not be necessary if it was installed correctly to begin with. You might just need to get the proper tool to be able to remove the faucet, it is called a ';basin wrench';. It allows you to tighten or loosen the hold down nuts in an area you can't fit a regular wrench into.
