How do you permanently tint an acrylic sheet and still keep it translucent?

Will translucent acrylic paint with a clear extender work? Will it bond chemically to the acrylic or will it just flake or sheet off?How do you permanently tint an acrylic sheet and still keep it translucent?
I don't know, but you might also check out ';glass paints'; from a crafts or hobby store. They may permanently bond to all very smooth surfaces well. (These are usually transparent btw, as well as translucent.)

It's possible that you could use a two-part epoxy resin, or even a two-part epoxy glue if the item is small enough, to coat the acrylic with. Those resins are quite adhesive, and cure clear though can be tinted with artists' oil paints (in tubes) to give color and most of those are transparent (except ';white';).

P.S. I don't think that an acrylic paint would stick to plastic very well, even if you did thin in down or use other acrylic mediums as ';extenders.'; Acrylic paints are like vinyl and can usually stretch and be peeled up from smooth surfaces.
