I would like to start painting and I noticed that people were using acrylic paint on canvas in the art work that I liked. Is that all there is to it? Are there any brands or types that are better than others? What is the best acrylic paint to use when painting on canvas?
It depends (for me) on the desired results. If I want smooth and I'm lazy, I buy the jars of the liquid media being ever so mindful to stir the sediment to keep consistent hue. If I'm in the mood to do ';van Gogh';, I buy the Windsor brand of tube paints (unless they have a sale on a kit). Tube media can still be mixed with a white thinner called Medium. I always gesso a canvas or board with the gesso medium (which will also add bulk to tube paint for daubing).
And, I buy the ';jello'; style of brush cleaner. You need lots of brushes. I keep a shallow tray of water to throw brushes into to keep the paint from ruining the bristles. When I'm at a convenient space in time, I use the KITCHEN sink, never the bathroom sink to clean out the pigments.
