Acrylic paint on urethane coated bar?

im painting my friends beer companys symbol ontop of his home bar tomorrow afternoon. im planning on working with acrylic paints because its what i use and know the best. His bar is coated with urethane.

my question is, will i have any problems painting ontop of the urethane? or will he need to sand the bar and prime it with something else? also, does anyone have any suggestions as to what to coat the bar with once the painting is finished so the acrylic wont chip?

any input would be great! thank you!Acrylic paint on urethane coated bar?

Acrylic paints will peel and or chip off of the urethane finish very easily and quickly. Like you figured, the best bet is to sand and prime first. Another option is to paint on the urethane (even though it will be weak), apply a clear coat, then top with a piece of glass cut to fit to protect it from damage. Good luck!
